We're All Going to Die
Watch the news any day of the week and the general feeling that you’ll get is that today may be your very last. Whether it’s a murder spree, a weather tragedy, terrorist attack, or cicadas; there is something that is so bad that it has never been this bad.
As I’ve aged, I’ve become the stereotypical man that likes to have dinner with the family after work and then watch the evening news. My preferred flavor is the local CBS affiliate — mostly because I am pretty sure Jack Williams shows up a little drunk.
This evening — a day after Moore, Oklahoma was destroyed by a tornado — we had a couple of severe storms roll through. You’d think that the four horsemen had descended from wherever it is that they will descend from. My wife and I almost went into full disaster readiness evacuation preparedness it was so bad.
This trend is going on throughout all the news. Watching one of the 24 hour news channels would lead one to the idea that everyone’s death will be immediate and gruesome.
The reality is that it is not the case that we will all die horrible deaths. In fact, the opposite is the most statistically probable. While most news seems to be full of crap, good things are actually happening out there.
Those stories are harder to come by, but you shouldn’t pay attention to the fear mongering that the media is currently brewing up. Yes, there are legitimate problems in the world, but everything will be okay.
Unless they’re talking about the environment — in that case — we’re all fucked.
